Week 2

Monday in class we talked about personal idenity. We created a collage of our identity by cutting out pictures to place in one of 4 catigories: Pysical, Social, Emotional, and Intullectual. Wednesday in class we presented our class norms poster we made as well as our collage pictures of our identity. Jackie recorded each presentation. We also did an activity self awareness. We listed 3 things that we thought described us during our class norms activity. Then we asked each of the people in our group how they precieved us during the activity. I was surprized how differently I precieved  myself and verses what others precieve, the blind area in Johari Window (Wood, 2001)

Identitfing scripts

The scripts that i relate to are:

Self: When one door closes another always opens
Education: Shoot for the moon and you will always reach the stars
Money: It will never make you happy but it sure does make life easier
Family: Can't live with them and can't live without them

My mom used to say the family one all the time. Scripts are rules for living and identity (Berne, 1964, Harris, 1969).

Week 1

Week Review:
This week in interpersonal communications we got to know each other. We played a game with an icebreaker ball. We worked on a project called group norms where we got into 2 groups and developed what we thought we norms for the class. This was a fun project and it also helped to know others in our class. Wood(2001, p. 12)  said, "We want others' company, acceptance, and affirmation, and we want to give acceptance and affirmation to others". I think this is true in any circumstance but especially in school.

Blog question: Principles of interpersonal communications

I believe that interpersonal communication is very complicated. King(2000) said, "No form of communication is simple. Because of the number of variables involved, even simple requests are extremely complex."
